132kV high pressure three core transition joint

In December 2009 the 132kV three core oil filled submarine cable supplying electricity to the idyllic Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar faulted, leaving most of the residents without power.

Elmeridge Cable Services were asked to provide assistance to design and supply a 132kV three core oil filled cable to single core XLPE cable transition joint suitable for assembly onto the submarine cable which operates at over 9.0 bar.

High Voltage Cable Installation in Zanzibar

Within 8 weeks the joint had been designed, manufactured and supplied to Zanzibar along with XLPE cable and outdoor terminations supplied by Ericsson AB of Sweden.

The Elmeridge Cable Services high voltage cable jointing team were dispatched from the UK to coincide with the delivery of materials and successfully completed the repair to the satisfaction of both the Zanzibar Electricity company and the President of Zanzibar who made a personal visit to the site to ensure work was progressing to plan.
